Methodology
This dashboard identifies charity-owned subsidiaries and related entities by examining parent-child relationships in the Charities Services register. A charity is classified as a subsidiary if it has a parent_charity_idlinking it to another charity, or if its entity type is recorded as "subsidiary" or "endowment_foundation."
Companies Office registration status is determined by cross-referencing charity service provider records against the shared.companies registry, which contains data from the New Zealand Companies Office. Status values include Registered (active), Struck Off, In Liquidation, and Removed.
At-Riskentities are those with a Companies Office status of Struck Off, In Liquidation, or Removed. These may indicate governance or compliance issues that warrant further investigation. Entities without a linked company record are shown as "Unknown" status — this may simply mean the subsidiary operates as a trust or unincorporated entity rather than a registered company.
Limitations: Not all charity subsidiaries are registered companies. Many operate as trusts, incorporated societies, or informal arrangements that do not appear in the Companies Office register. Coverage depends on the completeness of parent-child mappings in the Charities Services data and entity linking in our companies registry.
