"Otago Neighbourhood Support has as its core vision, ""Safe, supportive, resilient neighbourhoods. The organisation's mission is that to achieve the vision we will help neighbours and neighbourhoods feel connected, safe and able to support wach other. We achieve this by setting up 'street-based groups of neighbours' who have an agreement to support each other in times of adversity and build their respect and relationship with each other in times of 'normality'. Each group has a 'street contact' person who maintains the contact details of the members and welcomes newcomers into the street. This person also distributes newsletters to their members and other relevant information as required. Groups act as a two-way flow of information on what activity is abnormal for their street, look after each others properties while away and pass useful intel onto the Police.
