The Whanganui River Enhancement Charitable Trust (“the Trust”) was established in 2003 in order to provide resources to help mitigate some of the effects from the ongoing operation of the Tongariro Power Scheme (TPS) on the Whanganui River catchment. The Whanganui River Enhancement Charitable Trust has the following purposes: (a) to promote the enhancement of the quality of the waters and catchment of the Whanganui River provided that such enhancement is for the public benefit and in the public interest, and provided further that any private benefit is incidental to the Trust’s charitable purposes; (b) to encourage other parties to promote the enhancement of the quality of the waters and catchment of the Whanganui River provided that such encouragement is for the public benefit and in the public interest, and provided further that any private benefit is incidental to the Trust’s charitable purposes; (c) to make funds available to allow river enhancement projects (social and environment
