The Uretara Estuary Management Group was officially formed in 2004 and comprises local residents and landowners from Katikati and surrounding communities. Mission statement; “Use a hills to the ocean approach for environmental projects within our catchment which includes fencing off waterways and planting natives shrubs and trees; creating, protecting and improving wetland areas and seeps; implementing pest animal and plant management programmes; assisting to maintain and improve estuary walkways and reserves; undertake Uretara Stream clean-ups; continue to manage mangroves within consented area; manage a profitable native nursery where these plants are planted as part of upper catchment projects; provide opportunities for schools and the wider community to be involved in projects; liaise, advocate for our environment and make submissions where appropriate; Take a collaborative approach with our efforts to work with other local groups.
