Mission: Sustainable Wairarapa Inc. (SWI) was established as an Incorporated Society in 2002. All its members work on an unpaid volunteer basis. Its objectives include working with local government and communities in the Wairarapa, to promote sustainability in our region. SWI regularly make submissions to local, regional and national government on plans for the Wairarapa, and have undertaken a range of projects, including: stream and wetland restoration, irrigating eucalyptus with wastewater, public events on climate change, rural land use and water allocation issues, and regional energy and transport strategies. We have produced reports on Recycled Water Farm Irrigation Feasibility, Farm Water Quality techniques, and local population counts of threatened species.In the past year SWI has created a group called Electrify Wairarapa to promote the uptake of solar power. SWI are recognised as stakeholders at local, regional and national government levels.
