Picton Dawn Chorus Incorporated

The purposes of the Society are to: (a) Enhance and sustain an abundance and diversity of native fauna and flora, in particular birdlife, in a defined area including Picton/Waikawa, Kaipupu Sanctuary, and the surrounding hills, through the elimination of introduced pests including mammals, invasive plants, and invertebrates; (b) Enhance natural regeneration by removal of weeds where feasible, and by reintroducing indigenous species where appropriate; (c) Promote, encourage, educate, and involve the Picton and wider Marlborough communities, local iwi, and other stakeholders in the process of achieving the above objectives; (d) Facilitate public access to Kaipupu Sanctuary by maintaining wharves, tracks, and other facilities, including safety and fire prevention measures; (e) Continue a guardianship role over Kaipupu Sanctuary consistent with the principles set out in the Reserves Act; (f) Enable self-sufficiency of the Society by seeking avenues of compatible social enterprise.
