To respond to longstanding degradation of Far North waterways, including the Awanui River, by undertaking planting of native flora and to provide education of Tikanga Maori for residents and children along the course of the River to enable it to act as a natural buffer for this critical waterway, reducing the scope for for leaching of nitrogen, phosphorus and other impurities into the River and the surrounding Moana for the health and welfa of both Tangata Whenua and the wider community.
