To encourage and promote heritage, music, opera and theatre in Canterbury with emphasis on the greater Christchurch area. To encourage and support organisations devoted to diffusing among the public a knowledge and appreciation of music, opera, theatre and heritage in Canterbury, with emphasis on the greater Christchurch area. To promote and support the writing of works of historical and heritage significance for Canterbury with emphasis on the work, ideals and vision of the "Canterbury Association" and its first agent, John Robert Godley.
