To encourage artists or students of art with a proven ability in methods of painting, drawings or design and who have concern for aspect of the Canterbury environment, natural and built, and gain inspiration from this. Without being restrictive the artists may include, as an example, artists taking a broad approach on not just the landscape but for example, focusing on botanical features. Without restricting the scope of the the foregoing, to provide financial assistance, clothing, books, equipment, use of facilities and other such appropriate assistance to such students or artists so that their time may be freed from the need to seek outside employment for painting, drawing or design.
