Showbiz Christchurch was founded in 1938 as Christchurch Operatic Society Inc., and for 80 years has specialised in the staging of musical theatre in Christchurch, providing education and development for members and the community, and entertaining Christchurch and Canterbury audiences with many of the world’s top musical shows. The organisation is a not-for-profit registered incorporated society, but is structured and run as a modern small business, managed and resourced to undertake the largest show projects as the performance rights become available. Our major show productions each year provide opportunities for local performers, musicians, stage crew, people young/old, to engage in their passion and learn from senior colleagues, this has been a stepping stone for some to a full time career. It also provides opportunities for the communities of Christchurch and Canterbury to experience performing arts events of world class standard.
