to provide a building and assets and volunteers to undertake fire prevention measures as deemed necessary and to respond to and extinguish such fires as do occur in vegetation within the designated area of responsibility and where deemed necessary provide initial attack for property fires, and attend other such emergencies. The designated are of responsibility is the area between New Chums Beach, top of the Whangapoua Hill, Hikurangi Hill and Opitonui Road.
