"Preserving the Past for the Future. To collect, preserve and display books, papers, machinery and articles of historical interest and illustrative of the manners, customs and events of the past. To collect and file photographs and pictures that provide a pictorial record of the history of Waimate. To collect and place on record such descriptions, anecdotes and reminiscences of the past as can be obtained from early settlers and their descendants. To carry out these objectives in accordance with the Society's Collection Policy adopted by the society and in accordance with the criteria for societies holding a charitable status."
