Tryphina House Whangarei Women’s Refuge continues to work towards the prevention and elimination of violence and in particular to support the rights of women and children to care and protection. To assist women and their children who are victims of physical, emotional, mental or sexual abuse. To provide emergency and temporary accommodation. To help women in abusive relationships to become aware of the alternatives available to them. To support women by providing access to legal and medical assistance and counselling and by offering help in dealing with social services in a culturally appropriate manner. To provide a Refuge environment which recognizes the needs of women and children of diverse cultural backgrounds and in which women are encouraged to learn to take control of their own lives. To provide similar and ongoing support to women still living in the community or who have left Refuge. To promote public awareness of the problem of family violence.
