Tryphina House Whangarei Women’s Refuge continues to work towards the prevention and elimination of violence and in particular to support the rights of women and children to care and protection.  To assist women and their children who are victims of physical, emotional, mental or sexual abuse.  To provide emergency and temporary accommodation.  To help women in abusive relationships to become aware of the alternatives available to them.  To support women by providing access to legal and medical assistance and counselling and by offering help in dealing with social services in a culturally appropriate manner.  To provide a Refuge environment which recognizes the needs of women and children of diverse cultural backgrounds and in which women are encouraged to learn to take control of their own lives.  To provide similar and ongoing support to women still living in the community or who have left Refuge.  To promote public awareness of the problem of family violence.
