About
Mission
History Te Ataarangi was developed by Dr Kāterina Te Heikōkō Mataira with the support of the late Ngoingoi Pēwhairangi in 1979. Te Ataarangi programmes are synonymous with the coloured plastic Cuisenaire rods known as rākau. It is widely known that Caleb Gattengo, an internationally renowned scholar, developed a language learning methodology, notably the ‘Silent Way’, using these rods. Te Ataarangi Ki Te Tai Tokerau Charitable Trust (TAKTTT) aims to advance the use and retention of te reo Māori through language immersion education using Te Ataarangi learning method. Our Vision: Kia kōrero Māori Te Tai Tokerau me te motu whānui – all New Zealanders speaking Māori.
