Mission: The Mission Statement of our organisation is "Saving Lives at Sea". However, our purpose is not that simple. New Zealand has many people that enjoy spending time on the water, primarily recreationally but also for commercial purposes. Being at sea in the Bay of Plenty can be a very enjoyable experience, but it also has an element of risk associated with it. we hope that anyone that leaves the shore returns safely under their own control. Tauranga Coastguards main purpose is to do what it can to facilitate this. Our volunteers provide advice, education courses and VHF radio watch to ensure that support and advice can be obtained once someone has ventured out to sea. If the need arises we also provide a highly trained rescue vessel crew, who have at their disposal high quality and fit for purpose equipment, and are able to go to the assistance of people in need. While this is primarily for recreational boating users, the service will always extend to others.
