About
To provide information and support to people with Down Syndrome and their families. To promote the participation of people with DS in the community through support, education, information, promotion and inclusion enabling people with DS to lead full and active lives. To respond to the needs of people with DS and their families by promoting their best interests. To provide accurate information to relevant agencies and services regarding DS. To encourage the social and recreational needs of people with DS through assisting with development of friendships, providing social opportunities and inclusion in 'ordinary' activities. To work alongside individuals and parents in order to assist a smooth transition from school to work. To ensure services provided are accessible to and culturally appropriate for Maori people with DS and their whanau. To encourage people with DS to take part in decision making in recognition that Disabled people are 'experts in their own experience'.
