About
We, the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart are approximately 520 Sisters living and ministering within Regions throughout Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Peru, Timor Leste and Brazil. The congregation, also known as Josephites, is a religious institute founded in 1866 at Penola in South Australia by Reverend Julian E Tenison Woods and Mary MacKillop, Saint Mary of the Cross. The Josephites undertake charitable and apostolic works of the Catholic Church in diverse social services for those who are most in need. We are Women of Earth grounded in Mission, acting on new possibilities that will heal, include, untether, set right and serve.
