The Rail Heritage Trust of New Zealand (“the Trust”) was established on 27th September 1991 for the purposes of: encouraging and supporting action to conserve, protect and maintain historically significant railway buildings, structures, precincts and relics within New Zealand (the “National Rail Heritage Collection”); encouraging and supporting action to conserve historic buildings forming part of the National Rail Heritage Collection for their continuing productive use; raising funds that may be applied towards the conservation, protection and preservation of the National Rail Heritage Collection; and maintaining and administering a “Rail Heritage Register”, which will classify and describe the National Rail Heritage Collection.
