Pakinga Pa Development Trust Incorporated

The Trust purpose is to prepare Pakinga Pa for gifting back to local Iwi. The Pa is located on a private farm but the owners wish to gift the Pa site to local hapu to care for in perpetuity. A Māori Reservation Application has been submitted to the Māori Land Court (MLC) which will enable local hapu to receive the gifted Pa site. Neighbouring landowners have agreed to gazette a Restricted Roadway across their property to enable people to access the Pa. MBIE has approved a grant to meet the costs of developing the Pa site and the accessway. With that Grant, the following pieces of work have been completed: Boundary fencing, Clearing the Pa site of scrub and some trees, Constructing an accessway from State Highway 12, Fencing and gating the accessway, Modifying State Highway 12 to meet NZTA requirements , making application for a Māori Reservation and a Restricted Roadway in the Māori Land Court. Now waiting on MLC hearings to complete the handover.
