The general purpose is to establish a facility that can be opened to the public, based at the Springfield Railway Station, including, any facilities, equipment, or other services as the Trust may from time to time require. Foster an interest in the history, operations of the Midland Railway Line, in particular the Springfield to Arthurs Pass section. Establish suitable track work at Springfield to provide a locomotive turning facility in the area of the former Locomotive Depot. Seek to exploit the recreational and tourist potential of the Midland Line for the benefit of the trust and the people of Canterbury. Any other facilities/services that may have links to railway operations at Springfield. Provide education for persons in the correct operation and overhaul of, equipment to be used for the purpose of providing, facilities/services as above. Provide to other persons or organisations having similar aims, any support and assistance consistent with the charitable purposes of the trust
