Maui63 Charitable Trust
About
MAUI63 is a not for profit created to capture data about marine life with the very latest technologies, especially our native Maui dolphin. The Maui dolphin is tethering on the brink of extinction with the current count only being 54 adults. So we’ve developed an approach using AI and drone technology to locate and identify Māui and Hector's dolphins (the Maui’s cousin). The biggest threats to these dolphins are location-related. By collecting data about where they are and when they are there, decisions can be made to protect them from fishing, climate change, toxoplasmosis and other mishaps. It will help tremendously to halt the decline towards extinction. All this amazing data will be collated and made publicly available to researchers, policymakers and industry.
