The purpose or mission of the LCNZ is defined in its Constitution. The following are extracts from that Constitution: The LCNZ accepts as its own the objects of the LCA and will promote these in New Zealand as the New Zealand district of the LCA To fulfil the mission of the Christian Church in the world by proclaiming the Word of God and administering the sacraments in accordance with the Confession of the LCA. To encourage every congregation to carry out its mission to its local community. To establish, develop and support new congregations where it is not possible for the individual congregation to do so. To dialogue with other Christian Church bodies. To minister to human needs in the name of our Lord and to provide institutions and agencies for this purpose.
