Mission: The Hunua Quarry Ecological Trust (HQET) has been established to contribute funds towards charitable environmental initiatives around the quarry. The Trust Area is defined as the area of land within the Papakura District Council’s jurisdiction (as at 1 Nov 2009), and those parts of the catchments of the Symonds Stream and Hays Stream within the Franklin District Council’s jurisdiction (as at 1 Nov 2009). The initiatives must fulfill at least one of the following criteria within the Trust Area: (a) environmental and community initiatives that are beneficial and worthwhile to the community and which are charitable under New Zealand law; (b) replanting and revegetation initiatives; (c) environmental research initiatives; (d) riparian enhancement (which shall include riparian planting and fencing and pest control within fenced riparian areas); and (e) environmental educational initiatives.
