Heart Lung Foundation (formerly the GLREF) was established at Green Lane Hospital in 1971 and incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act in 1976. The aim of GLREF is to advance medical education and research in the departments of Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Paediatric Cardiology & Surgery, Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Respiratory Medicine, within the Auckland District Health Board.
