The purposes of HYC are: a. To foster the growth and guide the development of yachting and boating, including racing, recreational sailing or cruising, under sail or power; b. The instruction and training of persons of all ages in the skills and practices of sailing including all aspects of safe sailing and water safety generally; c. To create opportunities for all participants to reach their potential; d. To create opportunities for all participants to reach high levels of skills and performance; e. To encourage and develop participation in all aspects of HYC activities; f. To participate as a representative body in regional, national and international meetings, competition and events; g. To establish, promote and administer codes of behaviour applicable to members; h. To organise and manage local, provincial, national and international competition events in which participants may compete for trophies and prizes;
