Mission: Habitat for Humanity (Dunedin) Ltd is a Christian not-for-profit organization that works in partnership with people of goodwill and families in housing need, to eliminate substandard housing by building/renovating and selling decent homes on an affordable basis. Habitat is not a "give-away" programme. Each partner invests at least 350 hours of their own labour, called "sweat equity", into building/renovating their homes working together with volunteers. This helps them develop new skills, and instills a stronger pride of ownership. Habitat assists families to transition from renting, to the Kiwi dream of home ownership. After a bond payment and initial trial rental period, the family has the opportunity to purchase the house through affordable repayments.
