The Charitable Trust was set up for three purposes: 1. To grant scholarships to persons under the age of 21 to further their education in farming pursuits, with a preference awarded to those residing in the Taranaki Province. Referred to as ‘Agricultural Scholarships’. 2. For the advancement of Musical education in the Taranaki Province by granting of scholarships to persons under the age of 21 to enable them to obtain musical training or education. Referred to as ‘Music Scholarships’. 3. For the advancement of the Christian religion among young people in the Taranaki Province through the Methodist Church of New Zealand by making grants to or enlisting services relating to youth movements or welfare work among youth.
