" The objects of the Association are to: (a) be the Association in the Canterbury region responsible for the administration, promotion and development of the sport of basketball; (b) encourage participation in the sport of basketball in the Canterbury region as a game which provides health, recreation and other community benefits for the general public. (c) provide community based basketball programmes. (d) develop and train players, officials, and other personnel involved in the sport of basketball. (e) provide skill development programmes in schools and after school programmes which are available to all that wish to participate. (f) to foster and assist the development of participants and provide training regardless of skill level. "
