About
- We strive to recount the early sawmilling history, native forest, and the Pioneers efforts to establish the farming community of the Waimate District. - To work with other individuals or groups with similar interests to our own to tell the stories of the Waimate District as a sawmilling town until the “Great Fire” of November 1878 and the development of the agricultural region thereafter. - To promote the facility for public display to encourage both international and domestic visitors to Waimate, and for its educational value. - To hold events on a regular basis portraying the gatherings hosted by the Early Settlers. - To establish a Totara forest as a major fundraiser for the Heritage Park and offer families and groups a living legacy. - To establish, develop and maintain a display of sawmilling and the timber industry. - To depict the ancillary amenities needed to support the industry alongside the farming community. - To cater for as wide a range of public interest as possible
