Dr David Ashley Wilson is a New Zealand First List MP based in Auckland, elected to Parliament on 30 June 2025. He holds a PhD from Auckland University of Technology (2016) for his thesis on governance and regional economic development, supervised by Professor Marilyn Waring. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in social policy and psychology and a Masters degree in public policy. Wilson's career has been in economic development. He served as CEO of Northland Inc (the Northland Regional Council's economic development agency) from 2013 to 2017, and was simultaneously Chairman of the Economic Development Association of New Zealand. He joined New Zealand First in 2015 and was an unsuccessful candidate in the 2017 and 2020 general elections. He contested Upper Harbour in the 2023 election and was ranked 9th on the party list. He entered Parliament in June 2025 following Tanya Unkovich's resignation. He currently serves on the Finance and Expenditure Select Committee and the Economic Development, Science and Innovation Select Committee.
